💜 A better way to begin your art journey

Hello everyone,

Over the years, we’ve had a lot of conversations with students, applicants, and artists trying to figure out their next step. And no matter where people were at, we kept hearing a similar feeling behind the questions.

“I want strong training… but I’m not ready to commit to four years yet.”
“I just want to get really good at the fundamentals first.”
“I’m not even sure which path is right for me yet.”

We’ve been listening, and we’ve been building something behind the scenes.

We’ve just introduced a new 1-Year Foundations Certificate Program at MTM. It’s built directly from the first year of our diploma programs. The same training our full-time students go through, but now offered as a standalone starting point. Instead of having to choose between Animation, Concept Art, or Illustration right away, you can begin by focusing on what actually matters first: building real, technical skill.

Most importantly: You can take this program from anywhere.

You can learn from:

• In-person at our downtown Toronto campus
• Online from anywhere in Canada
• Or internationally, from anywhere in the world

Live classes. Real instructors. Real-time feedback. You’re not watching recordings, you’re learning in the moment, asking questions, and getting direct guidance on your work as you go, whether you attend in-person OR online.

Our first year has always been one of the most defining parts of the MTM experience. It’s where things start to click. Students come in at all different levels, and within a relatively short period of time, you can see a real shift. Drawings feel more solid, structure starts to make sense, and confidence builds, not because students are doing more work, but because they finally understand what they’re doing.

In just one year, students develop:

• Strong fundamentals in drawing, perspective, structure, light, and colour
• A clear understanding of how to improve their work
• A solid portfolio to move forward with

From there, you have options. You can continue into any of our diploma programs, or take what you’ve built and apply elsewhere with a much stronger portfolio. If you’ve been waiting for a way to start that feels flexible, focused, and actually effective, this is it.
