💜 Final Call: Register Now for Donna Johnson’s Environment Design Workshop
Registration Closes Tomorrow at Noon!
If you’ve been dreaming of creating environments that tell compelling stories, evoke emotion, and captivate your audience, this is your moment! We still have a few spaces available in Donna Johnson’s 10-Week Fundamentals of Environment Design Workshop. Registration is closing soon – don’t miss this chance to learn directly from a master of digital art and storytelling.
Last Call - Registration closes tomorrow at noon!
In her free masterclass earlier this week, Donna captivated attendees with her passion for teaching and her deep understanding of environment design. She shared invaluable insights, such as:
đź’ˇ On Colour Perception:
“Colors are rarely what they seem at first glance. A white background might have a pinkish-purple undertone in one light, and tomatoes aren’t just red—they hold hints of orange, green, and even blue in their shadows. Training your eye to see these subtleties transforms your art.”
🎨 On Building Depth Through Light and Shadow:
“Think of light as a sculptor—it carves form, creates drama, and tells the story of your scene. Bounce light and ambient light add richness and realism. Even subtle changes in shadow temperature, like the red warmth reflected from a tomato, can bring a piece to life.”
🖌️ On Simplifying Complex Shapes:
“Don’t overthink the details when starting out. Block in big shapes with large brushes, and then carve out smaller details as you go. Let your colors and lighting guide the story, not every tiny line.”
Donna’s workshop takes these lessons even further, offering you the opportunity to work alongside her in a highly personalized learning environment. You’ll get:
Direct Feedback on Your Work: Donna will personally review your progress and help you refine your techniques.
A Safe Space to Experiment: Have questions about tools, techniques, or concepts? Ask away, and Donna will guide you through.
Portfolio-Worthy Pieces: By the end of the workshop, you’ll have not only knowledge but also a series of polished environment designs to showcase your skills.
What You’ll Learn Each Week:
Each session focuses on a key aspect of environment design, from mastering light and shadow to creating harmonious colour palettes and adding narrative depth to your work. Here’s a glimpse:
Week 1: Foundations of Composition and 3D Form
Week 2: Breaking Down Colour Theory for Artists
Week 3: Harnessing Light and Shadow for Realism
Week 4: Simplifying Complex Designs for Animation and Games
Full week by week breakdown on the workshop registration page
Classes start next week, January 21st - and will be every Tuesday from 6 PM - 9 PM EST via Google Meet. The investment is $450 CAD for 10 weeks of transformative learning.
