The Animation Industry Isn’t Slowing Down
Hello everyone,
🎬 You don’t want to miss this. We just released something special.
Our 2025 graduating animation class short film is now live, and it’s SO much fun. This wasn’t made by a single student working alone. This was built the way real animation is made: As a team. In a studio-style pipeline.
With real roles, real collaboration, and real production structure.
Take a few minutes to watch it. Seriously. This is what our students are capable of by the end of the program.
Before we go further, a quick note:
We’re actively shaping what comes next at MTM, and we genuinely want your input.
Everything we’ve been building lately, including what we’re about to talk about today, has come directly from feedback like this.
And speaking of that…
another major announcement is coming Monday. Stay tuned. đź‘€
Now… Let’s talk more about our ANIMATION PROGRAM!
Animation is changing fast, and growing even faster.
![]() | There has never been a more interesting time to get into animation. Studios are expanding. Streaming platforms are investing heavily. Entire pipelines are shifting to remote work. Independent creators are building massive audiences online with their own personal animated projects. And right here in Toronto, one of the largest animation hubs in the world, studios are constantly producing content, especially in children’s animation. Shows are being made, teams are growing, and opportunities continue to open up. |
What makes MTM so special?
A lot of animation programs focus on software. Or portfolios. Or getting you to a “final film.” But here’s the problem: Most students graduate having worked mostly alone.
They’ve made something… but they haven’t experienced what it actually feels like to work in a studio.
At MTM, students have opportunity to work independently, but also, get a sense of what it is like to be part of a larger team. In third year, students create their own film. You push yourself, solve problems independently, and prove what you can do. But in fourth year, everything changes.
You work as a team. Just like a real studio.
You take on roles, based on what you like to do best:
animation
modeling
rigging
backgrounds
storyboarding
You collaborate, communicate, problem-solve, and build something together. That experience matters more than most people realize, because when you graduate, you’re not stepping into the unknown. You already understand how production works.
And that’s exactly why some of our graduates move quickly, sometimes very quickly, into leadership roles. We’ve seen students go from graduation to directing within a year, because they weren’t just trained to draw…
They were trained to work.

We start with something most places skip
Here’s something most schools won’t say out loud: They expect you to already be good. Strong portfolio. Strong drawing. Already competitive. But if you already have that… what are you going to school for?
At MTM, we take a different approach.
We’re looking for:
commitment
curiosity
willingness to improve
Because the reality is, fundamentals are what actually build great animators.
One of our alumni described it best:
“The first year especially… nobody had really gone through any of that with me before. That was the most impactful.”
“Once you understand the fundamentals, everything else starts to click.”
Drawing. Structure. Perspective. Colour. Movement. Not glamorous at first. But essential. Then later, everything clicks. Your work glows, because you haven’t just made good designs, you’ve nailed the underlying structures, so everything looks incredible.

Now, our programs are more accessible than ever.
This is something we’ve been working toward for a long time.
All MTM diploma programs, including Animation, are now available online across Canada.
You can:
attend classes live
receive direct feedback and critique
stay connected with instructors and classmates
Same training. Same expectations. Same results. Just without the barrier of needing to relocate or be physically present every day. This change happened because of you, because you asked for flexibility. For accessibility. For a way to make this possible.
If you’ve been thinking about animation…
This isn’t about being perfect. It’s about starting, and actually learning how to improve. Animation is one of the most collaborative, creative, and evolving industries out there right now. If you’re willing to put in the work, there is space for you in it.
